Článek o konferenci k problematice novorozeneckého screeningu sluchu.
Large neonatal hearing screening programs have started in the European Union as well as in the United States and in many other countries over the last 2 to 3 years.A number of national, European, and international projects are currently focused on the practical implementation of such programs, but many who work in clinics may not be fully aware of the results achievable in this rapidly growing area. As regional and national screening programs are launched, substantial investment of resources will be entrained. The European Project AHEAD from the Biomedicine and Health Program of the European Commission (1996-1999) is showing that there is an urgent need to evaluate effectiveness and to establish standards of best practice in the field. One of the briefs of project AHEAD was to organize a Consensus Development Conference on Hearing Screening. After a series of preparatory meetings, the consensus conference was held in Milan, Italy, on May 15 and 16, 1998. The conference was organized by professor Ferdinando Grandori of the CNR Centre of Biomedical Engineering at the Politechnic of Milan, and the scientific coordinator was professor Mark Lutman of the Institute of Sound and Vibration Research at the University of Southampton, Southampton, England.
